Singapore
July 2006
4 days
We arrived in singapore by bus in the morning, it was pretty hot and i was hungry so we stopped at mcDonalds for lunch and lorraine then went off looking for somewhere to stay, while i was waiting i decided to boot up my laptop and found out that there was free wireless internet, which was cool.
Anyway, lorraine soon came back and we found somewhere to stay, the 7th Story hostel which was pretty cheap for singapore and most importantly near an MRT (subway station) so we could get around.
It was great to be back in singapore, its such a cool city, so clean and modern with loads of trees and greenery and stuff - the only downer is that it is pretty expensive especially compared to Malaysia.
We spent our first afternoon shopping on the Orchard road which is about a mile long filled with malls, the evening we tried to find cheap food and drink, ended up finding cheap(ish) drink and had a pretty nice night out.
The second day we were there we followed a couple of walking tours from some brochures i picked up in JB. We were apprehensive at first cos we kinda felt we had already seen all the sights on our last trip here, but following the route was kinda fun and we got to see some new things that we missed last time - there is a theatre by the river which looks like a futuristic Durian (a smelly fruit that looks a bit like a pineapple i spose) and we got to explore inside. There was also a really nice sushi bar in there, so i hit the conveyer belt for a couple of bits of raw fish and stuff - nice.
In the evening we went out to a local chinese hawkers stand to have at first cheap beers and then some dinner, we were having a pretty good time but then this really old toothless chinese dude wanted to join us so we let him, although we could barely understand him, he seemed friendly enough and he bought us loads of beers. He developed quite an attraction to lorraine and hit on her outside the toilets, she was horrified and scarpered then we left.
Our final day was spent at sentosa island which is singapores resort island with man maded beaches, kinda disney-esque but easy and cheap to get to, the sun was shining and we had a really nice day chillin on the beach, reading etc..
The next day we decided to leave singapore and headed back to malaysia.
