Koh Samui
Koh Samui
Thailand
August 2006
14 days
well we have been in samui for a couiple of weeks now, after spending a week in phuket. The weather has been mostly great here, although when we left phuket for samui we experienced terrible rainstorms at tong sala...so bad that the ferries were cancelled that day - but we got to samui the following day without any probs.
we spent about a week in chaweng, the main beach of samui. our first night we stayed at a place that was way too clos eto the bars so we heard lots of different types of music till about 2am - not good. We moved to an english run place which was cheap but pretty crummy and it smelt - at random times there was this noise like an airconditioner or something rumbling which introduced a wet dog smell to our room - dunno what the heck that machine did (extract air from the kitchens below maybe) but we knew it as the wet dog smell generator.
we actually stayed in Chaweng for nearly a week - the room sucked, but the beach is lovely and there are loads of good cheap bars.
we hired a bike one day and scooted about looking for a new beach to checkl out and found Bo Phut beach which is very small and quiet based around an old fishing village with quaint (sorry) converted chinese shopfrnots - converted into nice restaurants amd a few decent bars. we got a decent room (no wet dog smell at least) for pretty cheap although we had to share our bathroom - and the beach was quite nice so we ended up in Bo Phut for a week.
after bo phut we moved to another beach nearby called MaeNam which has a realy nice beach and its very quiet and cheap there - althouhg maybe too quiet as there are not very many bars around. We've got a cool bungalow set back from the beach and have been hanging out there for a few days now - we've found the best pizza i think we have ever had - served at a place called La Tratoria - which is just by the main road.
well today we have hired another scooter and are going round the island - last time we only went halfway as we took a detour to check out a waterfall (brilliant waterfall - with a cool swimming pool thing under it). Today we are looking for the next beach to move to before we do a visa run to get more time in thailand.
we also played mini golf just now - cgreat fun! - lorraine beat me and it was her first time.
well thats about all for now.
