We arrived in georgetown from koh lanta after a boring minivan journey, but not as bad as some. Finding accomodation prooved difficult as all the backpacker places were Grim and expensive - we ended up staying at the same hotel as we did last time which was a little more pricey but quite nice.
We spent our time in georgetown shopping, eating and drinking. The hunt for lorraine's wedding dress begun here - with no joy.
The food in georgetown was great, there is a large indian population and the tandoori chicken was brilliant and seriously cheap, there was also one decent backpacker bar which had cheap beers (for malaysia - its a muslim country) and played bob marley all night.
On our last day we hired a motorscooter and checked out the northen beaches and also went up Penang hill via cable car for some great views of penang. On the way home it started raining - like nothing i have ever experienced - bucket loads of water was pouring down so fast i quickly was unable to see while driving the scooter through the rivers that were once roads (now a foot or so deep - within 5mins) so we pulled over and huddled under a bus stop with about 20 other motor scooterists. We waited for about half an hour and the rain barely subsided, but we were freezing cold and soaking wet so we went for it, navigating georgetown's one way system in the dark where some raods are impassible and others a foot deep in water was fun - we made it by sheer brilliance on my part - navigationally speaking.
We left the next day.
Oh, while in georgetown we also organised and planned our wedding, we booked and paid for a hotel and wedding package in Sri Lanka, so our official wedding date is (well was) the 7th December.
