e arrived in bangkok and checked into a really nice hotel cos it was having a special deal (so it was only 3 times more expensive than our budget option!) but it was really nice.

We saw the family on friday, at lunchtime we met up with our cousins Oy and Nipon Promjam who has a scary job title, as a Colonel of the Directorate of Joint Intelligence Supreme Command HQ. They took us to a chinese restaurant which was nice but lorraine and i didnt really enjoy the food. In the evening we went to my cousin Pooks restaurant which other than the 1hr traffic jam on the way, was a very enjoyable night. We chatted mainly with pook and got pretty drunk on the unlimited beer which members of staff refilled whenever we got over halfway through a beer.

I was also told i smile like my Dad, which is the first time i have heard that.

The following day was spent (successfully) on a massive laptop hunt, i bought a funky nwe laptop, me being such a backpacker an all. The following paragraph need only be read by the geeks out there:

My laptop has a 12&Quot; screen so its nice and small and weighs less than 2kg. Its is also Ipod white so it looks dead sexy. Its got an Intel Centrino 1.7 processor, 512mb Ram and 40 gig HDD and cost me about 500quid which is pretty cheap - its made by a thai company called Belta and if you are interested the model is called the Mollis Mini II s170. I then spent the next couple of days buying software and games for the laptop and have now got it setup for gaming + web development (IIS, ODBC, Flash, Photoshop etc..)

Just spent the last couple of days shopping and eating and hanging round the hotel as we found a fairly nice one which has just opened so has a special price. Met up with some of gavs cousins and uncle. One of his cousin has a restaurant so we got taken there for traditional thai drinking food - I didnt like the food - it was either fish or really fatty bits of meat but the beer was free flowing so it was good.

Family gathering
Oy drove us to pooks resturant about an hour outside of bangkok (not including insane traffic) where we had a lovely meal and loads of beer.
Lunch time
We met with Nipon Promjam and Oy (my cousins) for lunch at the MBK center and had chinese food
A cool shot of the skytrain line
lots of concrete and traffic - kinda sums bangkok up
Our 4* hotel room
not very backpackery - but lovely and great value about £20 a night
The MBK center
mentally massive shopping mall with floors of stuff - loads of markets and electronics - we went here ALOT!
