Wagah
India
March 2005
Wagah about 28 kms. from Amritsar is the only border crossing between India and Pakistan. Its an interesting experience especially at sunset when the Retreat ceremony takes place with the Border Security Forces on the Indian Side of the Border. The changing of the guards and the ceremonial lowering of the flags ceremony is carried out with great pomp, amidst frenzied applause and cheers from the specators in the grandstands on each side of the border, each with its own cheerleaders.

An Indian welcome to the Pakistan cricket team.
The tension at the time we were there between India and Pakistan had been channelled into a cricket match, rather than actual warfare.

general view of the border ceremony.

Indian soldiers marching.
Both sides march and perform in a highly exagerated and threatening way, to cheers from their supporters.
