The Jungfrau
Switzerland
August 2007
Fri 17 - Mon 20 Aug
Parked the van in Lauterbrunnen for a few days so we could visit the mountains.
Did a good 2.5 hour walk from Lauterbrunnen up into the mountains to Murren. Some good views along the walk, waterfalls, creeks, snow on the mountain tops and views down into the valley. From Murren got the cable car up to Gimmelwald, a beautiful little village with awesome views, very peaceful, picturesque really! Stayed in a chalet which we had all to ourselves, with an open fire and views of the mountains. Perfect and made the trek worthwhile.
The next day was beautiful and sunny with clear skies so we took the opportunity to take the very very slow train up through the mountains to the top of the Jungfrau. Amazing views on the way up to the top, and amazing once we got there too. Everything was covered in snow, but it was warm in the sun at the same time. Kind of bizarre. Had a play in the snow, had a walk through the ice palace, then back down the mountain again on the train, more awesome views on the way down.
Checked out the Staubach Waterfall, which was a huge waterfall which splashed down in the valley just near Lauterbrunnen. Had dinner and drinks, watching people go by in the town.
Sunday was a bit cloudier but not too bad so we walked over to the Trummelbach Falle which were a series of waterfalls in all sorts of shapes and force flowing through the mountain. Some of them were in a corkscrew shape which was pretty cool. I did a bit of a walk again then by myself, up on a different route into the mountains above, saw some cute Swiss cows with their bells tinkering away.
