Nelson was a must see according to some guys on Lonely Planet. It was not on our route, but with a few days left with our car, we side-stepped and made it our penultimate destination before returning to Vancouver.
It was a long uneventful drive and after 5 hours or so we were hoping it would all be worth it.
It was!!!! A quaint little town nesseled in the hills next to the river - its origins being lodgings for prospectors mining for Silver. Full of character and charm: old hotels and curiosity antique shops alongside a sandy beach and calm waters.
The first night we stayed in a room above a bar, the noise from which kept us awake until the small hours. Jon watched two classic blockbusters: Terminator 2 and Jerry Maguire, both at the same time constantly flicking between them!!
But then we had an intruder.....................a kamikaze fly who thought it funny to dive bomb and bounce off Jons forehead. Killing this winged pest proved difficult without the right tools, a fly swat!. It wasn't until the next morning, and against Sarah's principles, that the fly was finally outwitted, trapped under a glass, gassed by deodorant and disposed of. Revenge is sweet! But funnily enough as we were just getting ready to leave the room, we heard yet another fly!
By the way - this hotel room had the smallest radiator in the world so Jon had to take a photo - check out the gallery--> Stupid thing!
The next day was a classic day on the beach reading [Jon:Treasure Island, Sarah: LA Confidential] and relaxing. Jon was approached by the editor of the local paper for few words from a tourist on the town and his photo was taken for the Wednesday edition. That night we stayed in a fly-less room across town.
Next day we drove back past Osoyoos on to Hope where we stopped for the night just to put our heads down before finishing our journey in Vancouver. Between Hope and Vancouver we saw the &Quot;Bridal Falls&Quot;..... Named so, because the thin mist of falling water closely resembled a brides veil.
Bye for now!
