DUNEDIN
Dunedin was just a dull medium sized town that we passed through and used to get our head down for the night. It was developed and first settled by Scottish immigrants and is known as the Edinburgh of the South. This shows in the architecture, pubs and street names.
It is home to Baldwin street that was once thought to be the worlds steepest street and was in the Guinness book of records until some killjoy proved otherwise.
Further north we stopped to go check out the beach that plays host to the Moeraki Boulders. These are like nothing you’ve seen and lie on the beach looking rather unusual and space like. They are quite unique in the world in that they are almost perfectly round and are up to 2 metres in diameter. They weren’t created by the seas actions but instead by the chemistry of the rock and are at least a few million years old. They are buried in the coastline and sea erosion occasionally unearths one and leaves it exposed. Check out the photos.. you’ll see what we mean.
